I have this corset I bought from Charlotte Russe a while back (I don't really ever shop there, but their epic mega sales are impossible to ignore) for less than 10bux. It looked awesome, fit great, but was this hideous bright pastel green, and so I've been meaning to dye it black for some time. Well because it's polyester I'd almost given up on doing it, but after spilling almost an entire bottle of India Ink on the carpet, I got the great idea to try it on the synthetic fabric. India ink is different from other inks in that it has arabic gum and shellac in it that makes it waterproof when dry, so I thought I'd give it a go with what ink I still had left. And I gotta say, I'm liking the results! It's taking a long time because I have to brush it on bit by bit, but it's worth it. Also, because I added a little water to make it last, it's not entirely black, and looks more like gunmetal, especially with the added sheen of the polyester.

Yay.

I demand pictures! both wip and completed! :3

I have been wanting to dye my purple corset for a while now, but hadn't wanted to screw it over, but maybe this way would work. I'll have to look a bit more into this dye you're talking about, but it sounds like it's working nicely.

Another excellent, hardy dye I've heard of, but will admit, I haven't tried, not because of fear or not wanting to, but simply because I haven't anything to dye, is black walnut ink dye.

If you've ever come in contact with black walnuts straight off the tree, you will know what a gummy, gooey, tacky, mucky, vile mess their outer skins are. I have and I can only imagine what a strong, permanent dye they might make. Other versions of walnut dye I've seen is to use ground up, or even whole, walnut shells. There is also crafting/scrapbooking inks in smaller bottles. However it's made, there are several options for a walnut ink dye. It produces a rich mahogany brown to espresso color, depending on the material used and it can be used on anything from fabrics to papers to leather; anything you can think of really.

I'm glad I stopped by and read this article, actually, as I have been thinking about dyeing a poly skirt I have. I may just give some walnut ink dye a try!
